Meet Kristy Nakamura
I'm Kristy Nakamura, a licensed real estate broker and one half of Kristy & Austin Home Group here on Oahu. I'm originally from Clarksville, Tennessee, but Hawaii has been home for years now, and our family is rooted in Mililani. My husband Austin and I run our real estate business together, and we bring a hands-on, education-first approach to every client we serve.
Before real estate, I was a teacher, and that background shapes everything about how I work with clients. I slow things down, break down complex decisions into clear steps, and make sure you always understand your options before moving forward. My goal is that you never feel rushed, talked over, or left in the dark during the biggest financial decision of your life.
From Classroom to Closing Table
I've been in real estate for about five years and have served as a broker for the last year, overseeing contracts and supporting other agents at our brokerage. That experience gives me a clear view of both the big-picture strategy and the fine details that keep a transaction protected and on track.
Teaching taught me how to listen carefully, ask good questions, and meet people exactly where they are. Now, instead of lesson plans, I build step-by-step plans for buying or selling a home on Oahu. Every plan is tailored to your budget, your timeline, and your long-term goals, because no two families are in the same situation and cookie-cutter advice doesn't work here.
That background also means I genuinely enjoy answering questions. Whether it's your first time hearing about escrow or you want to understand the difference between leasehold and fee simple, I'll walk you through it as many times as you need. There's no such thing as a bad question when you're making a decision this important.
How Kristy Supports Oahu Buyers and Sellers
I work with buyers and sellers across Oahu, with a focus on local families, first-time homebuyers, and military and VA clients. Whether you're buying your first condo in Kapolei, selling a family home in Mililani, or navigating a PCS move, I bring the same level of care, preparation, and strategic thinking to every transaction.
Guiding First-Time and VA Buyers
First-time and VA buyers often tell me they were nervous before we started working together, but felt calm and confident once they understood each step and had a clear plan. I walk you through terms like contingencies, appraisals, and credits in plain language so you're empowered to make your own decisions rather than just following instructions.
We'll talk honestly about what your budget can realistically do on Oahu, what tradeoffs to expect between different neighborhoods, and how to structure a strong, competitive offer in our market. I believe you deserve to understand the full picture, not just the parts that make a deal sound good.
Helping Local Families Upsize and Plan Ahead
For local families, buying or selling on Oahu is almost always tied to bigger life decisions: kids changing schools, caring for aging parents, building equity for the next generation, or simply needing more space. I approach those moves with sensitivity and care, making sure we think beyond just this one transaction.
Together, we'll look at how your housing choice fits both your short-term needs and long-term financial goals. That includes school districts, commute patterns, neighborhood culture, equity-building potential, and how this move positions you for future opportunities. Hawaii real estate can be a genuine path to stability and generational wealth when it's approached wisely, and that's the kind of planning I bring to every conversation.
What Kristy Brings to Every Transaction
My strengths include contracts, negotiations, pricing insight, and strategic planning. I enjoy digging into the details that most people overlook: comps, timelines, contingencies, inspection findings, and appraisal nuances. When you work with me, you can trust that someone is watching every line of your contract and thinking two steps ahead on your behalf.
As a broker, I have a deeper level of accountability and oversight than a standard agent license requires. That means I've demonstrated additional knowledge of Hawaii real estate law, ethics, and transaction management, and I bring that perspective to every deal I touch.
Whether we're negotiating a repair credit after an inspection, helping you understand a counteroffer, or strategizing the best list price for your home, I combine data-driven analysis with an honest, no-pressure conversation. You'll always know where things stand, what your options are, and what I would do if I were in your shoes.
Values That Shape Every Transaction
Everything I do is rooted in a few core values that Austin and I share as a team:
- Education: You'll always know what's happening and why. I explain every step, every document, and every decision point so nothing catches you off guard.
- Transparency: I'm honest about pricing, risks, competition, and realistic outcomes. You won't hear me sugarcoat things just to close a deal.
- Empowerment: You make the decisions. I provide the information, the options, and the strategy so you can choose what's best for your family.
- Advocacy: I treat your goals like my own and negotiate with your best interests front and center, every single time.
I want every client to feel like family: supported, respected, and genuinely cared for before, during, and long after closing day. Many of our closest relationships started as client transactions, and that's the kind of business we're building.
Outside of Real Estate
When I'm not reading contracts or strategizing with clients, I'm usually with our three kids, enjoying life in Mililani, or planning our next family adventure. Our family's life here keeps me grounded and reminds me that behind every transaction is a real story, real people, and a future we're building together.
Austin and I also share a lot of our real estate knowledge on Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, where we post educational content about Oahu neighborhoods, market updates, buying and selling tips, and behind-the-scenes looks at what it's really like to work in Hawaii real estate. We believe everyone deserves access to honest, clear information, whether you're ready to buy tomorrow or just starting to think about it.
